this is my favourite band of all time. my fixation on them started two years ago (time flies!) and my autistic ass won't stop at all. i love lore of these guys, i listen regularly to pretty much every album. i even did a talk about their lore at a local convention. i still feel like i'm on the tip of the iceberg with my gorillaz knowledge, and i wish i could experience growth of them from the start. too bad i guess. my point is- i don't try to convince you that i'm all-knowing and you are a fake fan, i just have an unhealthy obsession. i'm not even that much into music overall. i dedicate this page to glazing over their albums.

this album started everything for me. 5/4 was the first gorillaz song i've ever listened to and i was immediately in love. then i listened to the whole album out of curiosity and i loved every single second of it. i love how the self-titled album takes influences from every popular genre at the time and makes something different that kind of feels like a playlist for exploring an imaginary dirty city of some kind. my favourite song is tomorrow comes today.
demon days is a classic. the music, the cover- everything about this album is so iconic. calling it an upgrade from the previous one feels weird; sure, demon days feels "like a gorillaz" more, but the self-titled and demon days are really different. one serves the purpose of introducing the world to the band and creates this sillier aesthetic, while the other introduces you to the more serious sounds and topics. and it's really good at that- it really made me terrified of war. i love this phase of the lore; for me it really fits into the dark tone of music and the band members had the best fits. (btw noodle was so goated during this phase it's crazy)

plastic beach no longer sound like autumn. it sounds like the hottest summer in your life. and you know you can't do shit about it; it's too late. strange metaphor aside, this album throws away the old sound of gorillaz and replaces it with with these sythpop-ish songs favoured by tiktok users and fans of danganronpa. i think the mainstream appeal comes from the silly sound of synths and the lyrics that sound like a love song at the first "glance" (it's crazy how they are cannonically written by murdoc i would expect a lot of shit from him but not that). the process of creating this album was really chaotic (it was supposed to be much bigger project than just one album), but i'm still glad we got at least this much, because the lore of this phase reaches it's maximum peak.

i don't even know if i should list this album here or not- technically it's a normal gorillaz album, but this album doesn't even have it's own phase and lore. the ideal description for the fall would be "beeps and boops made by 2d on his ipad". and i treat it more like a bonus for 2d kins because oh boy he had it really hard on the plastic beach and it's shown in the cover (totally my vibe i love it) and also in the music. which is not my cup of tea, but i learned to appreciate it over time. it's nothing crazy in today's standards, but in 2011 nobody really tried making music on an ipad, so it deserves credit for being innovative. now i want to listen to this album again. little pink plastic bags is definition of this "what now?" feeling i often have.

"this is how gorillaz are going to look like in 2017" aah cover. this is the album that took me the most time to get into. the songs were not instant bangers for me and some of them are just meh for me. but the bangers really give of this vibe of "party at the end of the world" they were aiming for. you don't know life if you didn't watch the uncensored version of saturnz barz.

while listening to humanz feels like being on the party at the end of the world, the now now feels like a hangover when you reflect on everything and have this thought like "actually my life isn't that terrible i can manage". and this exact mindset is really shown in the "humility" music video- i love how happy 2d is without murdoc. and it's funny how he gets jack black on a music video at the first chance he gets.

song machine is an album i rarely listen to. i just need to be in a specific mood for it. but it's really good- it has beautiful music videos, especially the lost chord. it's peak gorillaz, but just not my cup of tea i think.

okay-first of all- this cover would look so much better without this shitty pink gradient behind murdoc and this weird blur put on 2d. i'm not a graphic designer or anything but i know a little bit about photoshop and i'm pretty sure i could recreate these two things in about five minutes. and they are so out of place- i can't think of any reason why they are here. i also hate what they did to the name of the album- it's so small i sometimes forget it's even there and the way it fits into that hut is unnatural. album cover slander aside, i don't like this album like i used to, but it was a really easy listen for me. they lean into this pop kind of sound, but it's still something different from the rest and it's cool, especially oil. i have a special place in my heart for this song, even if it's nothing special in terms of sound. i really like the idea of gorillaz having a cult and we all must admit-knowing murdoc this was going to happen sooner or later.

the mountain-their newest album- is going to release on 20th of march. and damn, i don't think i was this hyped even for the release of chapters 3 and 4 of deltarune (i was literally counting down to the release date). gorillaz are finally going through a phase of being influenced by the culture of india, which i think is the canon event of every band ever.
